There are a host of ways you can embark upon living a more green and organic life. Let’s review 10 tips to live a more eco-friendly organic life. Recycle. Whether recycling products via the recycle bin or recycling center or finding creative ways to repurpose items in your own home and garden, recycling is a strong way to reduce waste. Choose organic food and products. This is especially important for produce since nearly 70% of fresh produce that is sold within the United States contains residue of potentially harmful chemical pesticides. Another example is products made with PVC, which contain dangerous chemicals such as lead and cadmium that can be toxic for kids and adults. Planting is another way to reduce your carbon footprint. When you can just pull from food items you’ve grown at home, you don’t have to travel and contribute to pollution created from driving and car exhaust. Additionally, you have the security of knowing exactly what is in your food and ensuring that it’s organic, without pesticides and of the best quality to consume. Conserve Energy. Turning electrical appliances off or unplugging them is a great way to reduce your carbon footprint. Avoid Plastics. Plastics can be a significant contributor of BPA and other toxins. Avoiding their use and opting for glass or stainless steel can be a better and safer way to protect against the toxins that plastics can potentially contain, as well as cut down on plastic waste in the environment. Alternative Flours. It is not possible for crops to be grown in the same soil each year without the nutrients being replaced that are taken by the plants. Switching the flour you use can help with this rotation. Spelt or wheat flours are often grown in rotation with rye and clover to help replace lost nitrogen. Change Your Cleaning Products. Switching to green cleaning products can reduce the risk of exposure to volatile organic compounds. Green cleaning products use more natural and organic ingredients, and you can also make your own using lemon essential oils. Add more plants in your home. Plants are a great way to purify the air and reduce the number of potential toxins in the air. Whether it’s adding more plants in the home or planting trees and other plants outside the home, this can benefit the indoor and outdoor environment. Promote Bees. Bees are a vital part of the ecosystem. They pollinate plants which help with the production of food and oxygenation of the environment. Plant flowers that encourage bees to pollinate to help promote the growth and expansion of our food supply and promote cleaner and healthier air. Watch Your Fabrics. Synthetic fabrics are made from chemicals that can endanger the health and also have an environmental impact. One of those is vinyl which is made from PVC. Experts advise that PVC contains dangerous chemical additives including phthalates, lead, and cadmium, which are dangerous for children and adults. Choose vegan fabrics versus those made from animals. Consider the durability of fabrics to extend their life and reduce waste.
